Change your beat. Change your brain.
I’ve seen it time and time again. Shifting the beat and switching up what your tell yourself can not only shift your mindset but it can boost your business, career, or life.
It’s all about something known as “neuroplasticity”. Your brain can actually shift and change when you learn new things. And, as I personally have discovered, it can also repair itself.
Embracing the shift
You’ve probably heard my accident story. However, you may not have heard the part about how I had a concussion, even though my head never hit the ground (I was run over by a speeding bicyclist in a crowd of people in June of 2011.).
I was not only mixing up words for things but I also couldn’t think of the words for simple objects like “chair.” I couldn’t think straight and it was affecting my business and my life. The accident also took its toll emotionally and physically as well. It was so frustrating!
The good news is that I’ve discovered different beats and rhythms (using hand drums) and reversed all that. Well, that and Divine Intervention but that’s another story for another time.
I’ve since created customized programs for many others with many different issues, including ADHD and autism, anxiety and stress, at-risk populations, PTSD, etc. It’s drum therapy® but there’s some coaching and mentoring as well.
It’s not just brain repair or opening up the neural pathways, it’s the mindset shifts that happen when you drum with me. Some of these people, including corporate wellness clients, worked with me virtually – and didn’t have a drum on their end! They just drummed on their legs, their desk, or a book.

A different kind of workout
Many people start working out to lose weight this time of year, in anticipation for swimsuit season and summer attire.
However, drumming is a full body and brain workout. In addition to pumping iron, you could be pumping those neurons! Many of my teen clients received an added bonus of a huge jump in their grades!
And yes, drumming does burn calories – an average of 270 in 30 minutes. The more you move, the more calories you burn.
