Drumming Up Clarity and Confidence
Did you know that the main reason creatives and entrepreneurs aren’t moving forward isn’t due to a lack of cash? It’s a lack of clarity and confidence.
The cost of fitting in
Way before I became known as “Dori the Drum Chick,” I worked on Wall St. and later for a French Bank. I had the suits, the briefcase, horn-rimmed classes, and a really nice paycheck.
My office was on the 13th floor at 50 Rockefeller Plaza in NYC, overlooking the skating rink. We had an executive dining room with a French chef on staff and a wine steward. My group managed a lending portfolio in the billions. Not millions. Billions. And that was in the ’80’s! Not bad for someone in her 20’s!
I’m thankful that they paid for my MBA but that career just wasn’t me. I didn’t understand my gifts or my identity. I was in the wrong lane. Can you relate?
Changing your beat
Whether I’m coaching or doing drum therapy, I find that many people, regardless of age, lack confidence and focus. This is often due to 3 things:
- They underestimate their abilities. Maybe people told them they can’t do something and they believed it.
- They make things harder than they need to be. Too many things get added to the mix.
- They’re thinking too far ahead (or behind) and they’re not in the now.
With coaching clients, there is also a lack of identity and mission. They don’t understand their assignment for this season of their life. Many need to shift their mindset so they can embrace possibilities.
What I discovered is that drum therapy can actually help you boost your clarity, your confidence, and your mindset. I love it when a private client or class participant’s face lights up when they suddenly get that burst of clarity or confidence!
What once seemed hard and really outside of their comfort zones is now flowing with ease. And that’s the start of the shift. It translates from drumming to their lives. Clarity often follows and possibilities appear. It’s brain science but it’s pretty remarkable.
