Bounce Back and Find Your Joy
Now that the pandemic is lessening in many areas, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s been a difficult season but now it’s time. It’s time to bounce back and find your joy.
It’s easy to lose hope due to a setback. For me, it was layoffs, an accident, and then the pandemic. All of these set me back a ways and made me wonder “Now what?!” I might have been knocked for a loop but I didn’t give up. I bounced back.
Do you know what brought me back to life every time? Drumming! For me, it’s pure joy.
What lights you up inside?
The pandemic has caused many of us to pause and reflect and ask “What’s really important?” Here are two other questions to ponder:
1) Is what you’re doing bringing you joy?
2) Is it bringing others joy?
When I teach people how to drum, I always tell them that our goal isn’t to go on tour with Santana or Bruno Mars (although that would be cool!). It’s to show them not only how to play but to enjoy the freedom and fun that drumming provides.
So, dig deep: What brings you joy? Feel free to leave a comment below! Also, are you doing that thing? If not, why not?
Know that you don’t have to do it perfectly. If you love it, then by all means do it!! Don’t overthink things! Just start!
Here’s a quick video with more tips and some drumming illustrations.
Would you like to experience The Joy of Drumming?
I’m offering a new series for adults that includes a 4-pack of virtual group classes to help you start drumming and find your joy. We’d meet once a week on Wednesdays, starting on 6/9, from 11am-1pm. This could be a recurring series, if there’s enough interest. You’ll learn basic beats and rhythms and also some more complicated ones as well. This will be based on rock beats, but you will learn some beats from other genres as well.
If you have a drum, great! If not, you can drum on whatever you have at home. I do have djembe drums for sale on my website that you can purchase separately, if you like.
The cost of the series is $97 for four, fun-filled sessions! No musical experience required! If interested, reach out and contact me!
