Are you on fire or has the fire dimmed a bit? If you’re feeling out of sorts, you may have lost your rhythm.
Many people I’ve run into lately aren’t quite where they want to be. Some have been struggling for months or even years – but they don’t fully understand why. I’ll give you a hint: It’s never what they think.
When I work with people in a drum therapy session or group event, I can tell a lot about them by the way they drum. I ask them how they’re feeling and what would that beat sound like? Their beat tells a story. A happy beat is way different than someone who feels stuck, scattered, stressed out, or sad. The first one is bouncy and steady and the latter categories are anything but.
What I’ve discovered after all these years is that many people are making things more complicated than they need to be. They may be holding onto past hurts or trauma (but don’t know it), suffering from “imposter syndrome,” or just getting in their own way.
The good news is that your rhythm can be restored and so can your spark! Drum therapy helps you retrain your brain. It not only boosts your mood but it can reset your mindset and even boost your neurons! Thanks to something known as “neuroplasticity,” learning new things boosts your memory and your creativity as well. Drumming also helps open up your neural pathways so you can focus, feel better, and find your joy!
Here’s what one happy drummer had to say. And this was after just one session! It’s not just drumming, it’s a holistic process. And it’s way easier than what you might think!
