Keeping it Simple This Season
Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you need to keep it simple this season. Hit the pause button and notice what’s around you. Like your cat in the Christmas tree.
He’s too big now to try this but it did make us stop and pay attention. Talk about getting “into” Christmas. Lol!
Simplifying and staying sane
Take a good, hard look at how you’re spending your time. Consider both what’s on your schedule and what you may be adding in without realizing it.
This includes activities you normally do, events you normally attend, things you said “Yes” to (but probably shouldn’t have), and time you’ve frittered away on social media, Netflix, etc.
If you documented the time you spent on those things, you’d probably be shocked. The question is, do you really have to do all that?
In drumming, as in life, it’s often a good idea to dial things back and simplify things. In both cases, it requires you to remove things. You have to really focus and filter out the extra beats or the distractions.
What’s really important?
Will it really matter if you don’t post on social media every day? Do you really need to spend hours on a fancy holiday dinner (that everyone will consume in about 15 minutes!)? Do you need to go into debt to buy everyone expensive Christmas gifts?
The answer to all these questions is “No.” So, cut yourself some slack, give yourself a break, and enjoy the holidays!
Here’s a quick video greeting with more tips and musings. Blessings to you this Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!
