Let Go and Get in the Groove!

Are you trying to control everything?

As you may have figured out, you can’t. In drumming, as in life, sometimes you have to go with flow and get in the groove.

I have to admit that, when it came to my business, I wasn’t doing this. When things started slowing down last year, I kind of panicked. I didn’t have a Plan B.

It was drumming or nothing. I didn’t listen to the well-meaning suggestions from coaches or friends. Nope, I was going to figure this out on my own and make this work!

What happened next

I got even more stuck. I was holding on too tightly and I wasn’t being open to anyone – including God. He did tell me that I can do way more than drumming and that I don’t even need a drum to help people heal.

However, I didn’t believe it. Until I conducted an experiment. I reluctantly agreed to give my coach’s idea to try a virtual beta test program with no drum on the participant’s end. I pushed back. No way is this going to work, I thought.

But I gave it a shot anyway, thinking I’d win the challenge. Sure enough, people were having breakthroughs in 20 minutes via Zoom – and they were drumming on a book!

Yep, I’m going to hear a big “I told you so!” when she comes back from vacation. Lol!

As this video illustrates, sometimes someone (or the Holy Spirit) will give you a simple idea that actually works. But you have to stay open.
