Releasing Your Gifts
Are you holding back? Maybe you’ve been told to “dial it back” or “stay inside the lines.” I sure have! Sometimes it was direct and other times, it was a subtle look or comment.
Unfortunately, if you hear that message often enough, it settles into your spirit and becomes part of who you are. Your confidence wanes and you start to slowly shrink back and fade into the woodwork. Maybe someone told you that you weren’t good at something, so you believed it. Or maybe you just don’t want to bring attention to yourself.
Believe it or not, I can detect all of this by how someone drums. It comes out in their beats, how they hold their hands, and how hard they hit the drum. I can sense disappointment, sadness, frustration, and lack of confidence.
I often ask: “Is that all you’ve got? Hit that thing!” It’s not like we’re auditioning for Santana! They’re in a “no judgment zone” and can let loose!
If you were drumming with me privately, you’d get a personalized program to help you gain clarity, release your gifts, and move forward. It just takes a few sessions. It has helped me heal, gain a new perspective, and accept my gifts. I’ve since helped many others.
What do you need to change?
If you know you need to play a bigger game, you may need to make a few changes. What do you need to do to move forward and hit your goals? Be honest with yourself.
For me, I need to do bigger events that would allow me to finally release my spiritual gifts. I know I also need to do videos that include drumming and not just motivation.
If you’re an entrepreneur, artist, speaker, writer, or musician:
In my last blog post, I recommended that you figure out what and/or who you need to help you move forward. Which of these do you need to start doing…or do differently?
* Newsletters
* Blog posts
* Social media posts
* Facebook or Instagram live
* Videos
* LinkedIn strategies
* Podcasts (either as a host or a guest)
* Create an online program, course, or webinar
* Do media interviews or telesummits
* Hire a coach, mentor, or outside expert
You don’t need to do all of this. I’d recommend starting with two and see how those are working. I’ve actually done all of these. It’s a lot of work! I learned and tweaked as I went along and sometimes hired help when needed. It pays to know your audience, where they hang out, and what gets the best responses. Keep it interactive, ask questions, do polls and contests, and make it interesting.
If you’re an employee or job seeker:
Keep your resume updated at all times! You never know when you may need to make a move quickly. Keep your LinkedIn profile updated and use that platform often! Again, participate in groups, ask questions, and start conversations.
What are you going to do to activate your goals in 2020?
People are waiting for what you have to offer. If you hide your gifts, no one benefits. So, what actions do you need to start with to get things moving? Make a list and pare it down to three top goals per month. They can even be personal goals. Just get started!
