Rhythm and Reinvention
Have you ever gone through a complete reinvention in your career or your life? In my book Rise Up & Rock: Activating Your God-Given Purpose, I mention several friends who, like me, rose up against all odds and succeeded in an endeavor that was completely different from where they started.
Some were laid-off, others had a health scare, and others created an innovative solution – and it took off! Any of these situations will make you take a step back and re-evaluate things. You may ask yourself: “Now what?” One thing many of us discovered is this:
You’re never too old to re-invent yourself!
When it’s time to shift
In my experience, you sense that it’s time to shift when:
- You’re feeling restless, frustrated, or discouraged.
- You’re working your tail off but you’re making next to nothing.
- Your priorities or situation changed.
- You don’t feel understood or valued.
- You feel completely burned out.
- You feel called to do something else.
That’s when you need to take a step back and evaluate what’s working and what’s not. What do you want to be known for? What would you like your business, career, or life to look like?
These are things I generally cover when I’m working with private coaching clients and sometimes in group events as well. I’ve learned to incorporate drum therapy into both coaching programs and speaking events because it really helps to boost clarity and confidence while reducing anxiety, stress, and ADHD issues. Here’s what one event participant had to say:
I was pleasantly surprised at how much joy drumming gave me. I left with a feeling of being lighter and not a worry on my mind. ~ Carla Barbour, Fuquay-Varina, NC
Rhythm and re-invention
Clients realize how they might have been too scattered or were sabotaging their success. Some were making the mistake of either playing it safe or trying to be just like everyone else in their field. If you’re a “different drummer” or have a “Divine Assignment,” that strategy won’t work. You don’t have to copy others! Take what you have and adapt it to fit your style and your strengths. Don’t give up! Switch things up!

I’ve found that people will finally make a change when they’ve unfortunately reached their breaking point. They know they need to do something different to preserve their health and their sanity. Most are just plain burned out!
