Setting Your Tempo for 2020
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a creative, or a musician, success is often all about timing. I’ve had many ideas that I thought were great and so I pushed them forward, only discover that my timing was off.
What I’ve discovered is that faster isn’t always better. As any drummer or drum student knows, when you try to rush the different parts of a song, it messes with the timing.
The best way to hit your goals is to not freak out and rush things but to keep a steady pace and be consistent. You need to set your tempo. Once you get in the groove, it just flows.
Timing is everything
While rushing through things isn’t a good idea, neither is waiting too long. You can get stuck in paralysis by analysis. This is when you think about something too much and you never move forward. Circumstances can change and opportunities can pass you by.
My best advice for 2020 would be to be open and be flexible. If you’ve been working at something for a while, get ready! This is the year that things may shift and you need to be prepared. This may be your year of suddenly.
Who or what do you need?
In order to be prepared, you need to know who or what you need to achieve your goals. I know several entrepreneurs and musicians for whom things suddenly took off but they weren’t ready. They didn’t have the right people in place to help them and this cost them time and money.
Maybe your goal isn’t to gear up your career or business but to travel, retire, or spend time with family. Do you have a game plan or just dreams?
If you’re a person of faith, make sure you include God in your goals and dreams. He may have better ideas…or different timing. This has given me way more clarity and confidence, which in turn has boosted my business.
I’ve gotten more referrals and more opportunities because of this clarity. My beat is now very deliberate and very steady. Not everyone gets me or what I do and that’s ok. I’m keeping the tempo, I’m gaining traction, and I’m still rockin’! I can’t wait to see what 2020 holds!
